The people behind Oxaphil – because good technology does not happen by accident
Behind every technological solution are decisions, experience, and people who know what they’re doing. At Oxaphil, we combine scientific excellence with the determination to make novel materials not just conceivable, but applicable. Our team brings together diverse perspectives from research, application, and development with a clear focus on quality, scalability, and impact.
We believe that technology is never accidental. It is the result of expertise, conviction, and shared responsibility.
Leonardo Matassini
Technology requires clarity and leadership
At Oxaphil, Leonardo Matassini is responsible for the development of our platform technologies: shaping how our materials move from chemistry into scalable applications. As a chemist, he works from the question: how must a polymer be designed so that we can scale it, our customers can formulate with it, and real-world applications can move forward? Naturally, Leonardo also plays a key role in designing the processes that make our technology scalable. These developments are new, so we are unable to reveal much yet, except that the results are promising.
Leonardo’s background in American football – an active player and German Champion in 2021 and also a youth coach – shows in the lab as well: he leads, mentors, and sets the pace. Therefore, students and interns especially benefit from his clear communication, patience, and focus on what truly matters.

David Bonnaire
Structure Meets Perspective
David has been part of Oxaphil since 2023 and, as an industrial engineer, brings not only a numerical understanding but also an operational and strategic perspective on companies. He is responsible for finance and business development: from structuring our cost models to further developing our business cases.
With his experience advising manufacturing companies, David brings a different perspective to the team, far removed from laboratory results and synthesis logic. This is precisely what makes the difference: His questions and decisions strengthen our shared understanding of economic interrelationships and contribute significantly to developing a viable business model from scientific technology.
When David isn’t busy creating new calculations, you can find him on the water as a licensed captain or exploring new kitchens.

Laura Fietzke, PhD
Scientific vision with practical impact
At Oxaphil, Laura leads the scientific direction and strikes the right note: technically precise, collaborative within the team and always focused on practical relevance. She has worked on antimicrobial POx, functional surfaces and molecular brushes in collaboration with national and international partners, and has presented her results at numerous scientific conferences.
What sets Laura apart is her ability to recognize what really matters. She plays a key role in deciding which material strategies we pursue and ensures they meet both scientific standards and regulatory feasibility. She guides the technical implementation and coordinates scientific questions. Completing a PhD in POx research in parallel with the company’s development is no small task – yet she delivers consistently strong results even under high pressure.
Outside the lab, she also knows how to bring people together. As an experienced vocalist, she contributes clarity and composure – in science and in teamwork.

Erik Wegener, PhD
Creator and driving force at Oxaphil
Erik founded Oxaphil as a project and is the driving force behind the company. As a chemist with 15 years of POx experience, he brings deep technical knowledge to the team. With his practical approach and tireless dedication, he ensures Oxaphil’s continuous progress. He sees obstacles as challenges that must be addressed. At the same time, he understands how to consciously step back to give others the space to demonstrate their skills without constant micromanagement.
In addition to his scientific expertise, Erik is a partner and father who is a team player who takes responsibility and inspires trust. As chairman of the Dresden Dukes e.V., he brings several years of management experience and social commitment to the table. He finds athletic balance through trail running and mountaineering in Saxon Switzerland, where risk management becomes very tangible for him.
